Opportunities to volunteer

As mentioned in our video ‘‘we are an ageing population’’, so we are all in this together! Volunteering is a great way to work together to prevent and mitigate the effects of frailty and give back to your local community at the same time. Whether this is helping to provide a transport service for people or simply spending time with someone that would otherwise be on their own. There are many opportunities to volunteer across Hampshire, visit the Connect to Support Community Directory to find opportunities in your area. If you are local to Basingstoke and its surrounding towns and are keen to volunteer, visit the Basingstoke Voluntary Action website for opportunities.

St John's Winchester Charity has also launched a new Hand In Hand service to help older vulnerable people in Winchester live independently for longer. St John's are in the process of recruiting volunteers for this service, so if this is something you would be interested in learning more about, they would love to hear from you! Support for carers

Being a carer can be tough both physically and emotionally. That is why it is really important to take care of yourself so you can continue to care for others. NHS England, Age UK, Carers Trust, Carers UK and Public Health England have produced ‘A practical Guide to Healthy Caring’ covering topics including making better use of technology and keeping on top of your own health and well-being. Advice and support can also be found on the following websites: Many local organisations and charities that offer advice and support for carers across Hampshire can be found on the Connect to Support website and Princess Royal Trust for Carers in Hampshire.
